Missouri Motor Vehicle Accidents Result in Injuries and a Fatality

Jan 7, 2011 | By Dempsey Kingsland Osteen | Read Time: < 1 minutes | Auto Accident

Recently, a school bus crash in Clay County, Missouri, sent seven children and the bus driver to the hospital by ambulance. Luckily there were no fatalities, and the children experienced only mild to moderate injuries.

The crash occurred along Missouri 33 when the bus hit a guardrail, went into the ditch, hit two trees and ended up in a creek. The cause of the accident was being investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Another motor vehicle accident occurred this December in Springfield, Missouri. This car accident ended tragically with the death of Missouri State University student, William McCreary.

A witness saw a “muscle car” speed through a red light and go airborne after hitting some railroad tracks. McCreary was a pedestrian on a sidewalk when he was fatally struck. The driver, Ahmed Salam Almahuzi, was charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Remedies Available to Victims of Motor Vehicle Accidents

Unfortunate auto accidents such as these bring to light the question of what types of remedies are potentially available to accident victims and their loved ones. Some examples of damages that can be pursued include:

  • Medical bills and hospital expenses
  • Expenses for medications and medical equipment
  • Lost wages and projected earnings
  • Expenses for home health aides, physical therapy and chiropractic care
  • Loss of enjoyment due to a permanent disability
  • Pain and suffering (including that before death)
  • Funeral expenses
  • Loss of love, companionship and support resulting from the death of a loved one
  • Punitive damages in cases of severe negligence or recklessness

Of course no amount of money can properly compensate someone for a catastrophic injury, disability or loss of a loved one. Monetary awards can, however, serve to meet both the immediate and long-term financial needs of victims and their families.
